The UNSW International Welcome Centre, re-launched in time for O-Week has also seen an influx of many of our international students who are looking for information and support on how to get settled at university, and life more broadly in Sydney.
After a long and arduous wait, we are delighted to welcome back our first international students on 6 December. The impacts of COVID-19 have been far reaching. Within our own UNSW Sydney community, more than 10,000 UNSW international students have been unable to return to Australia since our international borders closed in March 2020.
If you are an international student on a student visa you should plan to be in Sydney by the start of Term 2. You will not be able to confirm your specific classes and personal timetable for Term 2 until class registration for Term 2 is completed in March 2023.

Yes, student visas allow you to work, however there are particular restrictions. You cant work until you have commenced your course at UNSW. Student visa holders can work for unlimited hours till 30 June 2023. From 1 July 2023, student visa holders can work for up to 48 hours per fortnight during terms, and unlimited hours during term breaks.
International students currently undertaking one of the following qualifications need to apply for undergraduate courses through Universities Admissions Centre (UAC): an Australian Year 12 in or outside Australia; an International Baccalaureate Diploma; a New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3.

UNSW has a diverse community with over 20,000 international students from 135 countries. The International Student Experience Unit is dedicated to helping students from overseas adjust to living in Sydney and studying at UNSW.
To help welcome these students into the UNSW community and connect them to other students we will be creating in-country connection opportunities where new students will be able to make friends offshore before eventually joining us together, here in Sydney.
Dec 7, 2021 Students from over 15 countries were on the first flight which was part of the NSW governments International Student Arrivals Pilot Plan which saw the states universities join forces to welcome students back after lengthy border closures. A second flight is scheduled to arrive on 24 December.
