Memoir Judge. Kit de Waal was born in Birmingham to an Irish mother, who was a childminder and foster carer and a Caribbean father. Kit only began writing in her fifties. Before then she worked in criminal and family law, was a magistrate and still sits on adoption panels. Kit won the Bridport Prize Flash Fiction award twice in 2014 and 2015.
